The lasagna was good but I couldn't wait any longer. I told my uncle that I has to go to the bathroom but I was actually going to the elevator at the end of the hall. When I passed the bathroom I opened the door, flipped the switch to turn on the light, and closed the door loud enough so that Uncle Charlie could hear it. Then I crept down the hallway as quietly as I could so that he wouldn't be able to hear my footsteps. When I reached the end of the hallway I reached for the button and was about to click it when so many voices came to my head. Some were telling me to press the button and get it over with, others were telling me not to press it, and yet others were telling me that bad things would happen if I clicked it. One voice even sounded like Uncle Charlie and upon hearing it I spun around frightened that he had caught me. But, no. No one was there. Just me alone in the hallway. I finally decided to get it over with and I clicked the up button on the elevator. The doors slid open quietly.
The inside of the elevator was tiled with white tiles and there was a golden handrail, which was made of plastic. The only thing that was in the elevator was a black book which I picked up and dusted off. I figured that if there was something hidden then the book would trigger it but no. Nothing happened when I picked it up. I opened the book to see what was written inside of it but it was blank.
"Zac? Are you still in there?" I heard my uncle yelling from the kitchen.
   "Yes, uncle."
"What is taking you so long? Your food is getting cold."
   "Diarrhoea," I yelled.
"I'm trying to eat in here."
   "Sorry, but you asked."
"Just hurry up will you? Your food is getting cold and it'll be a waste of perfectly good lasagna."
I turned and was about to head to the bathroom and flush the toilet when I remembered that every elevator has buttons on the inside also. There were tons of buttons in this one. I reached out and clicked the first button. The doors shut and I felt the elevator lurch upwards. Aha! I had found it! There was something hidden. Now just to see where it would take me.
The elevator was going pretty quick. That I knew from how my face felt and from looking at my hands which were shaking like there was no tomorrow. I had dropped the book on the ground because I wasn't able to grip it. After about two minutes the elevator finally came to a stop and I felt myself go airborne. The doors opened and I saw myself looking through a window with a view of a huge city which I realized to be Chicago. Only because of a skyscraper which had a sign saying 'Chicago Tribune'.
I bent over and picked up the book before heading out of the elevator. When I stepped out I found that I was not in a building unless I was on one of the stairwells. There was a wall to my right and left. Behind me was the elevator now sealed shut with no buttons on the wall. And in front of me was a flight of stairs. There was no turning back now. I had to venture forwards...or might I say down the stairs.
