I have decided to write the book in Microsoft Word rather than on here.  You know what this means don't you?  You won't be able to track the book's process weekly any longer.  Now when a chapter is finished it will be posted here so there will probably only by new posts every month and a half.  At least I'm still going to post the book here, though.

So check back monthly or subscribe to the RSS Feed!

The librarian returned three hours later soaked in rain.  He sat down in a chair and threw a small brown bag onto the table in front of him.  "Storm," he said.  "Freezing cold out there and in here for that matter."
"Why don't you change, then," asked Nera.  "By the way what is in that bag?"
"Very good question and I am glad you asked.  Excuse me one moment, though, while I change.  Now where are my clothes?" He spotted them in the corner and picked them up.  Then he hurried out of sight to change.  He returned a few moments later still shivering, but in dry clothes.
   "So the bag?" Nera said.
"Ah...yes, the bag. This," he said reaching in the bag and pulling his hand back out, "is the finished Bornic Memory Chip! Here you go, Zac.  Just finished it."
I held out my hand and he dropped a small green object into my open palm.  It was light and looked like a green lego.  "Now what?"
   "You swallow it," he said.
   "Uh..."
"Don't worry.  It will only hurt a little."
Taking a deep breath I threw the object as far back in my mouth as I could and immediately swallowed.  It scratched my throat as it went down and I thought it was going to choke me.  Luckily it went all the way down.
"In a few moments it will activate.  You will know when, trust me.  Just let me know when it does."
   "Okay, I will."
"I'm glad I don't need one of those," Nera said.
"I'm glad I did mine a long time ago," the librarian said. "The truth is that I couldn't give you mine and now you know why, Zac."

I felt the urge to open up the door and follow but then I decided to obey him and I walked down the tunnel.  A few moments later I found myself in a large chamber filled with furniture and sitting on a leather sofa was Nera. She jumped up and hugged me tightly.
"Zac! I'm so glad you made it here alive!" she exclaimed smiling.
"So am I, Nera.  What happened after they drug you away?" I asked curiously.
"They only threw me out the front door of the court and told me to scram," to said.  "Nothing as bad as what they did to you. Locking you up and such but we can talk about this while we journey through the Grand Wood."
  "Grand Wood?"
"Phin and I planned it all out over the past week.  He is gone to the library to retrieve some maps of the forest.  He wants you to finish writing in this book of yours," she handed the black book over.
"If only I had this while I was locked up.  I was so bored in there."
"I bet. I would've been too.  Just catch up on your writing and then I will brief you with our plan through the Grand Forest."
"Just one question beforehand," I said.
  "Yes?"
"Why are we going to venture through the forest?"
"According to legend there is an elevator hidden in a tree somewhere in the heart of the Grand Wood.  And not just any old elevator.  It is a Bornic Network Chamber!"
"This should be easy," I laughed.  "So you got a pen?"
  "Catch."

Nearly a week passed and I had nothing to do.  If only I had that book.  If only I could write in it but, no, Belphinjun, the old librarian had the book.  Luckily I trusted him with it.  I knew he would not burn it like he said he would.
Everyday at noon a meal was brought to me and another was brought right before nightfall.  I had a cell all to myself and I'm glad I did because I was not about to stay with a real prisoner for however long.  There were two prisoners across the hall from me.  They stole each other's food, bothered one another when trying to sleep, and even occasionally fought.
On the eighth day a familiar face appeared at the bars of my cell. It was the old librarian!  He held a finger to his lips to tell me not to shout out.  The librarian reached into his pocket and produced a key.  Inserting it into the lock he twisted it clockwise and the door slung open.  Then the librarian motioned for me to follow and set off down the hallway only to stop a few moments later at a corner.  He peeked around the corner to check if it was clear and after being satisfied he motioned for me to follow him across the intersection.  We continued this for about an hour or two before finally coming to a large window that was opened.  The old librarian slid through the window and dropped down.  I followed behind.
A moment later I landed on a rooftop next to the old man. "We must hurry.  It won't be long until the guards find out that you are gone."
"That is if they haven't already noticed," I said. "After all it did take a while to sneak out."
"Well whatever be the case we best be running along." The librarian turned away from me and ran along the roof.  I followed close behind.  About five minutes later we came to a ladder which we descended.  Looking around I realized we were in an alley. Escaped.  Finally. Escaped.

We walked along the streets for half an hour before finally coming to the entrance to an underground tunnel. Belphinjun looked around making sure nobody was nearby.  Then he opened the door and ushered me inside.  I found myself in a dimly lit tunnel.
"Follow the tunnel and you will eventually end up in the Central Cavern. You will find Nera waiting there for you.  She will explain everything."
  "What about you," I asked.
"I must meet somebody in town," the librarian said. He then reopened the door and slipped back out into the streets.

The old librarian patiently waited as Bon Vendel descended down the podium.  When the court master's feet touched the tiled ground the librarian strode towards him and nodded first at the book then the podium. "You swore you would never again call me Phin," the librarian said.
"Until the day when I could trust you again," Bon Vendel smiled.  "I just never knew this day would come here on Earth.  I always thought it would be there," he pointed up, "in heaven.  But alas! You are alive!"
    "Yes, I am old friend."
    The two hugged.
"You must destroy the boy's book, though, Phin. With it this world will be destroyed.  The laws scattered so much that it will be impossible to make our own laws. Destroy it and I promise changes will be made."
"But will they be our, the people's changes, or your changes?" the librarian asked.
The court master smiled.  "The people's."
The old librarian turned away from Bon Vendel towards Nera and me. He nodded quickly at us so that it would be hard for Bon Vendel to notice what was going on and then he walked towards the doors at the back of the courtroom. When he reached them he turned and shouted, "The world is in my hands!" Then he opened the doors and left.
Bon Vendel walked towards Nera and told her that she may leave, but he told me to stay.
     "Why?" I asked.
The old man turned and glared.  "Why?  Why you are an alien to us.  Changes have not been made yet.   Your fate rests in Phin's hands.  When he makes his decision your decision will also be made.  But for now..." a broad evil smile spread across his face.  "Lock him up!"
I turned to run out the doors with Nera but found my way blocked.  Nera obviously heard the commotion because she rushed back in only to be seized and drug back out.

"And what is your proof that you destroyed all your text filled books, Belphinjun," Bon Vendel asked.
"There," the old librarian said pointing at one of the jury members. "He was one of my soon-to-be murderers. He can explain everything that happened."
"You! You scoundrel! You traitor! Why if I could strangle you without losing my authority I would!" Bon Vendel shouted out in anger. "And to think I've trusted you all these years. Say how many prisoners have you released in your eight years of service?"
"None," the scared jury member stuttered. "None...bu...but Belphinjun that...that...is."
"And why did you chose to let him go?"
"Because he knows that you of all people should be concerned about bringing the real criminals to justice. Traveling through the Bornic Network could help our world," another jury member said bravely.
"Our world is already more advanced than any other world," the old librarian said. "But it wouldn't hurt to help the others out now would it? If we don't travel then we should at least let people from other worlds do so..."
"These are not rules set by me," Bon Vendel interrupted. "They are rules set by our founders and to disobey those rules would be completely outrageous and irrespective towards our long dead founders."
"Our founders our long dead and after all the only thing they did was build this city. They built cheap shelters but we are the ones who went through all the trouble of designing the organized city with the windows that you can see through from the inside but not outside. If anybody deserves to make the rules then it is our generation...The Living Generation!" another brave jury member shouted.
"The Living Generation!" the jury echoed.
"Silence!" Bon Vendel shouted. "For now the rules will stand," he slung the book at Belphinjun. "Burn it. If I find out you have done otherwise with it then you will meet the noose like you should've done long ago. And also, you mark my words, if he does otherwise the rules will stand until my death." With that he stood and descended from the podium. "Our world's future is in your hand's, Phin."

I awoke with a sharp pain in my gut.  It was so weird I didn't remember going to sleep.  All I remembered was hiding in Nera's closet writing in the book like the old librarian had told me to.
"Get up on your feet both of you," a deep voice barked.
I stood as ordered and glanced around to see who was with me but my vision was blurred and all I could make out was a purple blur and a massive amount of brown. I blinked and regained vision. Ahead of me was a large brown podium and sitting on top of it was a grey-haired man wearing a red robe.  To my right was a man dressed in purple robes who I assumed was the owner of the deep voice and it was confirmed when he whispered in my ear. What he whispered I do not know but I do know it was a joke of some sort because he chuckled as he strode towards the brown podium.
"My work here is done, judge," he said in that deep voice. "May I leave?"
"Yes, you may, Judius," the red robed man said.
I glanced to my left to find that the other person was Nera. She glanced at me and whispered, "Our time is done."
I gave her a confused look and she smiled. "Our time is done," she repeated.
The red robed man cleared his throat and then he spoke. "Nera, daughter of Dax and Judy you have been brought to the court to explain yourself.  It has been reported that you are mingling with an alien from the woods.  And what is more! You have been hiding this alien in your room without your parent's approval!" he had a triumphant look on his face. "And jury, if you must here more," he said turning behind him and facing the jury, "her parents ordered her to take this alien back, but she disobeyed and hid the alien away."
The jury gasped at this and begun whispering amongst themselves.
Then the man on top of the podium turned his gaze towards me. "Sleepyhead Zac, alien of the wood you have been brought to the court to explain this," he held up the black book in his hand.  "Traveling the Bornic Network is strickly forbidden, yet you have decided to do it."
The jury gasped again and many yelled insults.
"It was accidental and you can't punish me. I am not of this world. I am from Earth."
The jury gasped and one stood. "His punishment shall be worse than we have planned. He came from a world with a Gate Keeper. Do not fall to his lies. He knew. The Gate Keeper of Earth surely explained all this Bornic Network stuff to him. Let's kill the boy!" The jury agreed but the red-robed man slammed his fist down.
"I, Bon Vendel, court master order the jury to settle or leave! Do not lie. We know you have been told this is strictly forbidden. Besides we can punish you.  Just like we punished Belphinjun after his second journey through the Bonic Network."
"I reject that," a voice rang out. Nera and I turned to find the old librarian standing behind us. "You attempted to kill me after my third journey not the second. Oh and in case it hasn't clicked yet you failed in doing so.  I pleaded for freedom and I came to a conclusion with my soon-to-be murderers."
"And that is what exactly, Belphinjun?" Bon Vendel asked?
"That if I destroy all evidence of my travels I could live and I will save this boy by destroying evidence of his travels as well. Hand it over!"
