Bunnies
The librarian returned three hours later soaked in rain. He sat down in a chair and threw a small brown bag onto the table in front of him. "Storm," he said. "Freezing cold out there and in here for that matter."
"Why don't you change, then," asked Nera. "By the way what is in that bag?"
"Very good question and I am glad you asked. Excuse me one moment, though, while I change. Now where are my clothes?" He spotted them in the corner and picked them up. Then he hurried out of sight to change. He returned a few moments later still shivering, but in dry clothes.
"So the bag?" Nera said.
"Ah...yes, the bag. This," he said reaching in the bag and pulling his hand back out, "is the finished Bornic Memory Chip! Here you go, Zac. Just finished it."
I held out my hand and he dropped a small green object into my open palm. It was light and looked like a green lego. "Now what?"
"You swallow it," he said.
"Uh..."
"Don't worry. It will only hurt a little."
Taking a deep breath I threw the object as far back in my mouth as I could and immediately swallowed. It scratched my throat as it went down and I thought it was going to choke me. Luckily it went all the way down.
"In a few moments it will activate. You will know when, trust me. Just let me know when it does."
"Okay, I will."
"I'm glad I don't need one of those," Nera said.
"I'm glad I did mine a long time ago," the librarian said. "The truth is that I couldn't give you mine and now you know why, Zac."
