The Forbidden Elevator
"I always wondered why my uncle got scared out of his wits whenever I got close to the elevator. I also always wondered why he had an elevator. He only lived in a one story house and last time I was in the attic I never saw the elevator. Was it just for looks? No, it was a curse set in his house. I learned this the hard way."
The cars flew past us in the other lane going towards town. My parents were going on a cruise and they were leaving me with my Uncle Charlie. He is fun; has almost every gaming console under the sun. He has a Nintendo 64, an Xbox 360, a PlayStation One, and many more gaming consoles. We usually video games but when that got old I explored the house. I have explored nearly every nook and cranny of the house inside and out except for one thing. He would not let me touch the elevator buttons or get into the elevator that was at the end of the hall. I was always tempted to press a button and get inside but I never had in fear of the punishment I may get.
Uncle Charlie lived out in the middle of no where. It was desert land. For miles you could only see flat lands of dirt and the town off in the distance. I enjoyed it there. Nobody around and miles to explore although I usually didn't explore outside of the house for fear of being bitten by a snake or scorpian.
"Now you will behave and listen to your Uncle Charlie won't you Zac?" my Mom said.
"Yes, Mom. I know the routine. I'm fourteen I can handle myself."
"I know you can. I just hate to know that soon you will be grown old and off to college. I wish we had of had another baby besides you."
"Honey we didn't have another and now it is too late. Besides we were single children to out parents," my dad said. "They never weeped of all this crap that you weep about every time we leave Zac behind."
My father could say that. They went on so many trips and never took me along. They said it was because they needed some bonding time. I think it was always my dad's idea to leave and get away from me. I think he hated me because my Mom weeped every time they drove me to Uncle Charlie's.
"Well you two are getting annoying. I'm sleeping," I announced.
"But we only have one hour left until we get there," my Mom said stupidly.
"Yeah I know. That would be the point. Wake me up when we get there. Wake me up when we get there. Not before we get there. Wake me up when we get there." And with all that repeating I fell fast asleep, hopefully for the rest of the ride.
